IN THE FALL

With thanks to J.M.W. Turner and ‘The Fighting Temeraire’.

Now autumn comes,
and the year is a great ship
on its way to the breaker’s yard,
its transient sunset glories
fading with the Fall.

But the transient
is also the eternal and will come again.
Lead us on, Great Spirit, to new life,
new glories and the time of resurrection.
