On 24 June 1860 the first probationer nurses began their course at what many regard as the first truly professional training school in the world for nurses. This was opened at St.Thomas's Hospital, London, financed by a fund established to mark the contribution of Florence Nightingale to the nursing care of British soldiers during the Crimean War |
